Money, money, money, money! Everyone knows expensive things exist, but what about insanely expensive items? Are they really worth the price, and what even are these items?
How much would you be willing to pay for a piece of fruit? Let’s talk about the Japanese muskmelon.

This tender, juicy melon is worth a whopping $200, making it one of the most expensive fruits in the world! It’s brown and soft on the outside, green on the inside, and dotted with yellow seeds, kind of like a giant kiwi. Each muskmelon tree produces only one fruit before it dies, meaning all the tree’s energy goes into growing just that single melon. The pricy melons are usually given as high-end gifts from the more wealthy families. They aren’t sold in most stores, mainly just specialty shops in Japan. But is a melon really worth $200? Maybe, if you can afford it.
Is the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Stromlinienwagen worth its hefty price tag?

This car was the most expensive sold in 2025, fetching around $53 million! It features a sleek, streamlined body and is incredibly aerodynamic. This ultra-rare Formula 1 car was a pinnacle of the automotive industry in the 1950s and 60s and remains a legend today. It was once driven by famous racers like Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss. Its bodywork was inspired by World War II airplanes, and its 2.5-liter engine boosts the W 196’s power to 290 horsepower, reaching a top speed of 186 mph. But is it really worth the price? It’s not even street-legal, so it would just sit in your garage or driveway, and what would you actually do with a car like this?

Great article, Nathan!
If I had to pick one of these, the submarine hotel in Saint Lucia would be an awesome adventure. I’d be interested to see if the muskmelon is that different from cantaloupe or other melons. There’s also some very expensive yachts out there that have a ton of cool features. That would be my dream purchase.
