This article is one of many shorter pieces, pondering what would happen in hypothetical situations. These are inspired by an article called “Everybody Jump” by Randall Munroe.
Many people won’t believe me when I say this, but books are the backbone of our world. Books help people cook, read, learn, and have fun! We will go through all of those topics.
If no one had cook books, food would taste bad and even poison people. If a bad cook makes your dinner, then you might get sick or worse. People might also get very hungry or start having very bad diets.
If we had no books we would obviously not be able to read. This means that people who spend their free time reading would be sad and bored. Also, most TV shows and movies are based off of books so they would be gone, meaning no one would get to watch what they want to. This would make everyone sad and bored.
Books help us all learn. If there were no books, then no one would get a good education. The teachers would pass down what they know, but after a while things would be made up and no one would know what was true and what wasn’t. No one would be able to work, buildings would fall, farmers’ crops would die if they never learned how to take care of them.
Many people read books for fun. If no one was able to get lost in fantasy worlds and enjoy characters, the world would not be as fun. Kids would think they can’t become whatever they want by reading books about superheroes. Additionally, the kids would not be able to do whatever they wanted because they would not have the education for it.
If books were illegal, humanity would die. Since if no one was educated, no one would have jobs. Without jobs, there would be no farms, and no food. Without food we would slowly die off. So, whenever you see a book, say thank you!
