Earth needs YOUR help! Have you ever looked around and seen plastic blowing across a field, or noticed trash floating in the ocean and ruining its beautiful sparkle? Maybe you’ve even found someone else’s garbage in your own yard. Lots of people see this every day… some communities are surrounded by it! And the truth is, the problem could even be us, along with thousands of other people. Together, we can do better for our planet.
Grass the Garbage Collector

Did you know that the average person throws away 1,800 pounds of trash every year- that’s about 4.9 pounds every single day?! You might be wondering how this could be your fault. Well, when garbage trucks pick up trash, things can fall out and scatter everywhere. At landfills, the trash isn’t always tied down, so pieces can blow away into nearby neighborhoods and cities. Grass and bushes can act like a giant brush, catching litter and keeping it stuck there. It stays trapped until something knocks it loose. This is why every piece of trash matters and why small choices add up to a big impact on our planet.
Water Loves Grass
Water sticks to a lot of things, and a lot of things stick to water. So when even a tiny piece of garbage blows away, it can end up in the ocean or caught in the grass. The ocean and the land around it are home to so many animals. Removing even one tiny piece of litter means one less chance for an animal to choke or suffocate. Dolphins, turtles, and many others often mistake floating trash for food because it sits right on the surface. That trash can carry chemicals and diseases, and when animals eat it, they can get sick or even die. This is why every small action to keep our environment clean truly makes a difference.
What are YOU going to do?
So what are you going to do about this? You’re not just going to sit there and close your laptop, right? You might be the person who helps your family start making real changes for our planet. After all… There is no Planet B.

Thoughtful article! I had no idea the average person throws out that much garbage. You make a powerful case for why we all need to pay closer attention to the impact we’re leaving on our planet.
