This article is one of many shorter pieces, pondering what would happen in hypothetical situations. These are inspired by an article called “Everybody Jump” by Randall Munroe.
Animals are the source of many lives today. But what if they all disappeared?
Many animals are the source of many food products particularly those grown. Cows provide milk and beef, pigs provide pork, chickens provide eggs, and so on. Without these animals, many people would have trouble finding food.
But what about people like vegans, vegetarians, or others who don’t need these animals? Well, not just these animals would go extinct. Pollinators would go extinct too. Bees are one of the world’s most effective pollinators. Without them, many plants that bear food wouldn’t make the food people need to live.
Without food, all animals would die off. Plants would also die, as they could not be pollinated. Earth would be a desolate planet. And I, for one, would be thrilled.
