What do these Memes really Mean?

Memes seem to be taking over our lives. We can’t stop laughing and sharing them with friends, but in reality, are they really as funny as we think?

Let’s start with 6-7. This has to be considered the “meme of the year”, but why are people laughing about it? The term 6-7 originally came from a song called “Doot Doot”, by Skrilla. In this rap song, the word 6-7 is repeatedly said multiple times. Skrilla has said in press accounts that 6-7 just rhymed with his lyrics and didn’t have any additional meaning.

A year later, in March 2025, A kid posted a TikTok video shouting “6-7” just once. The video quickly went viral, and everyone started watching it over and over- even posting their own versions. NBA player LaMelo Ball, from the Charlotte Hornets, who is 6 feet 7 inches tall, helped the meme blow up even more, making basketball fans especially love it.

And of course, there is the hand gesture. It looks like you’re weighing two things, which doesn’t even match the meme. The truth is, neither the gesture nor the meme actually means anything. So why is everyone going absolutely crazy over it?

So, what does it mean to call someone a Karen? A Karen is typically a middle-aged woman who is seen as overly demanding about small things. Karens are famous for “asking to speak to the manager” over minor inconveniences at stores or restaurants. Once people noticed this behavior, they started posting about it on social media—and soon, the whole world knew the concept of a Karen. Nowadays, people often call someone a Karen online if they post rude or entitled comments, which can sometimes hurt feelings.

Now, what is emotional damage, and how did it become a meme? Emotional damage is basically what it sounds like: mental or emotional trauma. The meme comes from YouTuber Steven He, who created an “Asian dad” character that appears in almost all of his videos. In his video When Asian is a Difficulty Mode, his character throws a shoe on the ground and yells, “emotional damage.” He explains that certain aspects of Asian culture can be strict or demanding, for example, “being called fat every day by your mom is emotionally damaging.” But if it’s about real pain, why is it funny?

This is an older meme, but still a good one. So, what does Tralalero Tralala mean? Tralalero Tralala first appeared in a TikTok video on January 13, 2025, as part of the “Italian brain rot” subculture. The video showed a three-legged shark wearing Nikes with some strange background sounds.

The history of Tralalero Tralala, however, dates back long ago, in Italy. People have long sung “Tralala” or “Tralalero” in a playful Italian singing style, where the words are meant to mimic the sounds of instruments. The phrases are lighthearted and nonsensical, so they don’t actually mean anything. So really, what is going on here?

Finally, what does Tung Tung Tung Sahur mean? This video recently went viral after being posted on social media on February 8, 2025, and went viral only a couple of weeks later. It features an AI-generated image of a bedug, a double-headed drum used in Indonesia and Malaysia, along with Indonesian-accented text-to-speech audio saying, “Tung Tung Tung Sahur” and other Indonesian words.

The phrase is meant as a fun warning to wake people up for Sahur, the pre-dawn meal eaten during Ramadan. The “Tung Tung Tung” part mimics the sound of the drum. Pretty interesting, right?
