Positive energy is essential for everything, especially sports. Everyone deserves encouragement and support, and cheerleaders model this by spreading praise to others. At Wredling, our cheerleaders are the heartof school spirit. Today we’ll hear directly from the cheerleaders about how they balance their responsibilities while lifting each other up!
Wredling’s cheer team is coached by Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Hovious, who works in the Learning and Teaching Department. Coach Johnson has graciously shared some history behind Wredling’s cheer team and how she started coaching. When asked, how long Cheer has been at Wredling, Coach Johnson responded, “for at least 15 years now.” Cheer is divided into two seasons-football and boys’ basketball, which runs from August to December.
Coach Johnson has been coaching cheerleading for nine years. She started coaching at Thompson Middle School. “I started to help out a friend, Mrs. Brooks, the current TMS coach and fell in love with it. I have been coaching ever since then.” She shared, “Every time we nail a routine that the team has worked hard on, it’s a huge achievement and a source of pride. Our competition performances are especially significant. With so much to remember and nerves running high, the girls must follow precise instructions- like when to line up, walk onto the mat, time the routine to the music, and exit the mat. No matter the results, the girls always give it their all!” She added, “Meeting and getting to know all the cheerleaders is the best part of coaching!”
Now, let’s hear from 6th-grade cheerleader Maddison Krelle!
Wredling’s cheerleaders bring energy and school spirit to both football and boys’ basketball games. Madison shared how being part of the team makes her feel connected and supported. “It makes me feel like I’m involved with the school and have a great supportive team.” In addition to cheering on the sidelines, the team also competes in cheerleading competitions. When asked if she prefers cheering for WMS teams or competing, she admitted, “I personally like both the same, but the competition routine is a lot more fun!” Being a cheerleader takes hard work, but she finds it rewarding: “I love the feeling after a game knowing that I was supporting my school.” Her favorite cheer, “Bring It,” stands out because of its upbeat energy and fun motions!
Some Gratitude for our Wredling Cheerleaders
“I would like to thank the cheerleaders for working hard, putting so much time and effort into the cheers, and always turning out great!” says 6th grader, Sofia Raske.
Nora Dietz says, “I really appreciate all the work the cheerleaders put into their performances. When they performed at the winter assembly, I was amazed by their talent!”
“Having a cheer team is important for schools,” says Mrs. Cannon. “They not only support our sports teams but also bring energy and excitement to events like our winter assembly.”
Well there you have it, cheerleaders have a huge impact on what goes on in our school. These hard-working individuals deserve our respect and gratitude for all the wonderful ways that they represent, help, and cheer on Wredling.
