Welcome to the Met(calfe) Gala! On display here are some of the art pieces for this year’s gala! This years theme is Radiant Rebellion. You might be a little confused right now. How do a chicken, an apple, and an axolotl represent rebellion? This was a creative project for Miss Metcalfe’s 6th grade ELA class. First everyone created a piece of their choosing. After students were given a prompt and had to somehow connect their pieces. This is the Metcalfe way of teaching argumentative writing. By making it ridiculously annoying…
“Bakery Arts” by Violet
Violet’s piece connects to rebellion because George the Possum is making a film that goes against the normal movie content. Nobody is at his award ceremony further firing the rebellion.
“United by Music” by Tom S.
Tom’s piece connects to rebellion because of the political protests surrounding Eurovision that have happened recently. Eurovision is a contest that celebrates diversity and is about sharing music.
“Martin” by Masha
Masha’s piece connects to rebellion because cats cannot eat chocolate. This piece is pulled from Masha’s childhood and is unique in its own way.
“The Cyclopes Pencil that Needs a Name” by Elena
Elena’s piece connects to Radiant Rebellion because it represents books. Books are one of the most common ways to rebel- by writing thoughts that are not what the social norm is. Books are also often burned and that only brings more attention to them.
“Futures Massacre” by Naomi (because she wouldn’t let me not add her)
Naomi’s piece connects to rebellion because some people are looking up from their phones, this is against the social norms. People are looking at nature as it is breaking through the black box through the little gaps.
