With the weather getting colder and wintertime coming upon us, indoor sports have started up again. Around this time, students have the opportunity to join Wredling’s wrestling or basketball team. Wredling’s cheer team is also very active around this time. This feature will highlight the 8th-grade teams and athletes and how their winter seasons went.
Tiara Chang, an 8th grader on the varsity girl’s wrestling team, said Wredling did well in their meets overall, only losing to a couple of schools. She also mentioned that “we did better than last year,” as she has been wrestling for Wredling for two years and will continue in high school.
Boy’s basketball was also a huge success this season. The 8th grade boy’s B team won all their games in the regular season and went on to win the Fox Valley conference championship. This was a major accomplishment for Wredling and all the players on the team. On the other hand, Wredling’s girl’s basketball season has just begun. They are off to a great start with both 8th grade teams winning their first game of the season. The girl’s basketball A team won at the last moment against Westfield by just 2 points. Even more impressive, all players on the B team were able to score in their first game. The players have a feeling that this is going to be a great season.
Lastly, this season, Wredling’s 8th-grade cheer team participated in the Lake Central cheer competition against schools from many different districts. Out of all these schools, Wredling placed 4th overall! They also performed at the Fremd Cheer SNOWdown on January 25th where they ended their season with their best performance and highest score of the season. With cheer tryouts coming up soon, we wish all our 8th-grade cheerleaders good luck.
All the 8th-grade athletes have put forth their best efforts this season. Even though they faced some losses, they rose above them and came back even better than before.
