This year’s Wredling 8th graders really showed up and showed off during their last middle school track season. Several school records were broken by returning and first-year track runners.
8th grade sprinter Ejay Hodge now holds two school records after this season. In our school’s history, he has the fastest time in the 100m dash and the 200m dash. He came in first place in men’s varsity at the Fox Valley Conference Invite meet, the last meet of the season, for the 100m, 200m, and 400m dash against runners from nine other schools. At that meet, he came close to the 400m school record, missing it only by 1.11 seconds. Yet, he’s still the second fastest 400m dash runner in Wredling’s history.
As for field events, 8th-grade thrower Vince Mendala broke the school record for shot put, and high jumper Alex Darie broke the school record for high jump.
On the women’s side, Alayna Krystofiak broke her own previous school record for the 100m dash. She was also a part of this year’s record-breaking 4×200 relay team, which included Sophia Margewich (8), Emily Guzman (7), and Laila Taylor (7). These four broke a school record that had not been broken for eleven years! In addition, Catherine Krelle, an 8th-grade thrower, broke the record for shot put.
Overall, Wredling did well this season, placing in the top 3 in every section at the Fox Valley Conference Invite meet, which included men’s and women’s JV and varsity.
As we say goodbye to this year’s 8th graders, next year’s runners, throwers, and jumpers are ready to fill in their shoes. Can’t wait to see what the next season holds for Wredling, and we wish all 8th graders participating in track and field in high school good luck.
